Sometimes it just isn’t meant to be. For the 5th time in his career Novak Djokovic has lost the final at the Western and Southern Open in Cincinnati the only Masters 1000 event he has never won during his career with the wait on going…
2008 – Andy Murray
2009 – Roger Federer
2011 – Andy Murray
2012 – Roger Federer
2015 – Roger Federer
The talk may be about Djokovic’ wait for the title on going however Federer has just won his 7th title in Cincinnati which is a great achievement and the tennis he produced in the final two matches against Andy and Novak was simply outstanding.
What stood out the most for me was he service return strike point which only one of the best returners in tennis can even think about trying and pulling off!
What I have put together isn’t 100% accurate but just shows some of Federer’s return positions against Andy and Novak over the last two days. Players do sometimes stand inside the baseline but there were times where Roger was standing 3-4 metres inside the baseline which is insane but it worked!
Something else which I think is incredible is in the four sets of tennis against Novak and Andy over the last two days Federer has won them 7-6 6-4 7-6 6-3 and didn’t have to face a single break point which against two of the best on the tour right now is brilliant!
With a week to go before the US Open begins I wouldn’t rule out a first title since 2009 for Federer…
