It’s amazing how things can quickly turn around for a tennis player. After making the Wimbledon final Garbine Muguruza couldn’t find a win on the tour and suddenly within just over 24 hours has recorded two very impressive wins against Sloane Stephens and Ana Ivanovic winning 6-2 6-0 and 4-6 6-1 6-0 which is pretty impressive.
After taking the first set I didn’t really expect Garbine to come back and win the way she did against Ana. Ana won 6 of the first 10 games in the match and looked in good control and suddenly Muguruza went on to win 12 out of the next 13 games to win 4-6 6-1 6-0.
For a match to turnaround so quickly like that one did is great credit to Muguruza but also frustrating for Ivanovic who in the second and third set only won 3 out of 15 points on her second serve compared to 8 out of 14 points won in the first set.
I’m not really sure where Ana Ivanovic goes from here. She is ranked inside the top 10 in the world but is down at 21 on the Road to Singapore and with just under a month to go and a few tournaments left it will take something incredible over the next month to qualify.
For Garbine Muguruza she is in the quarter finals of the tournament and will play either Mladenovic or Schmiedlova in the next round and is now 6th on the Road to Singapore with qualification looking likely!
