We’ve been waiting so long and now the Davis Cup Final is here and it’s fair to say on Day 1 it didn’t disappoint with comebacks, warnings and the occasional booing from the crowd!
David Goffin d. Kyle Edmund 3-6 1-6 6-2 6-1 6-0
Rollercoaster it was. Kyle Edmund was simply incredible for two sets of tennis with the forehand causing so many problems for Goffin who just couldn’t read it and looked nervous however early in the third set when Goffin got the break you just felt the momentum of the match switch with Goffin a totally different player.
It will be a tough defeat for Kyle but he can be very proud of his performance in the match especially for a player making his debut in the Davis Cup Final!
Andy Murray d. Ruben Bemelmans 6-3 6-2 7-5
It was trickier than I expected for Andy especially in the final set where Bemelmans started to find his rhythm and got the crowd on his side with some stunning drop shots throughout the match causing issues for the world number two.
Belgium were given a team warning, Murray was warned for language and the crowd were booing but Murray as ever got the job done and levelled the tie at 1-1 after Day 1.
What will happen on Day 2?
Andy Murray and Jamie Murray are set to play doubles against Steve Darcis and Kimmer Coppejans however I wouldn’t be surprised to see Ruben Bemelmans in the team instead of Coppejans
