Stuttgart – Safarova still searching, Kerber through and Fed Cup hangover?

Safarova still searching…

Lucie Safarova has 8 wins and 1 title to her name on the doubles tour this year however on the singles it hasn’t really gone to plan. The Czech star is still looking for her first win of the year having lost at all five tournaments she has played this year.

Her season did end early last year due to illness and has been halted at times this season with injury but will be disappointed to have lost in round one in a very close match against fellow Czech player Karolina Pliskova.

Kerber battles past Beck!

Defending champion Angelique Kerber is through to the quarter finals of Stuttgart once again after having to battle past fellow German Anika Beck in three sets and two hours of tennis.

The Australian Open champion came from a set down to defeat Beck in what were a pretty close first two sets however the third was a runaway with Kerber racing to a 5-0 lead before finishing with an ace to take the set 6-1 and secure her place in the next round.

Oh France

France maybe through to the Fed Cup final but 3 of their 4 players didn’t perform too well in Stuttgart today with Caroline Garcia, Kristina Mladenovic and Alize Cornet all losing in straight sets a few days after helping France to reach the Fed Cup Final.

Roberta Vinci was a winner as well today in Stuttgart and well with this backhand cross-court slice winner it’s fair to say she won the shot of the day
