Serena triumphs at Sw19 to pick up Grand Slam No.22

A year ago Serena Williams picked up Grand Slam title number 21 at Wimbledon this was followed by talk of number 22 which Serena never wanted to speak about. Disappointment in New York, Melbourne and Paris left the world number one coming back to SW19 still in search of that 22nd Grand Slam title which would level her with Steffi Graf’s record.

The wait is now over though for the world number one who has proved she still is the very best on the tour and this isn’t changing anytime soon. Serena’s start to the tournament got off to a difficult start after being pushed all the way bu Christina McHale in round two but turned it on in the semi-finals and the final against Elena Vesnina and Angelique Kerber where some of the tennis should produced was extraordinary!

Wimbledon finals are all about opportunity and the biggest challenge many face is taking those opportunities. At 6-5 in the first set after a close 11 games Kerber served to stay in the set and a few errors in a minute or so put the German 15-40 down which obviously gave the world number one set points and a gift like that Serena was quite to pounce on! Opportunity taken.

Kerber finally got a chance of her own to break at 5-7 3-3 with the scoreline at 30-40 but with the mood Serena had been in these last few days she wasn’t giving anything away serving two aces in a row to save the break point and subsequently for Kerber in her next service game she was broken despite being 40-15 up and Serena had no issue serving it out for her 7th Wimbledon title and 22nd Grand Slam singles title but she wasn’t finished there…

There was no time for an immediate party as Serena and Venus had a doubles final to contend and well it was incredibly entertaining from all four players and of course there would be only one winner as Venus and Serena claimed their 6th Wimbledon doubles title together.

Congratulations Serena and Venus! 😀
