Nick Kyrgios could be one of the greatest, but it’s all up to him!

Nick Kyrgios could be world number one in the future, he could be a multi Grand Slam champion and he could be one of the game’s greatest talents but there is a key word in this opening sentence and that is ‘could.’

I have to be honest I was pretty disappointed with Kyrgios in the match against Murray. The first 10 games between the two were competitive and close and then once Murray got that break of serve to take the opening set the match as a contest was all but over!

I started this piece with using the word could four times in the opening couple of sentences and everything now is up to Nick.

On his day is pretty much unplayable but you never know what performance you will get from Nick. He has the potential and now it’s time to really kick on and show he can be one of the greatest on the tour.

After Nick’s defeat to Andy at Wimbledon he gave a pretty honest interview saying:

“I mean at times, like I’ve previously said, I don’t love the sport. But I don’t really know what else to do without it.”

“To be honest, I woke up this morning and played computer games”

This isn’t the best preparation to playing Andy Murray and neither is watching Lleyton Hewitt play doubles just a few hours before his match but I actually felt sorry for Nick as he does get a rough ride in the media but for him to admit he doesn’t love the sport is a great shame as he has created many memorable moments in the first few years of what could be an incredible career.

Nick hasn’t had a full time coach for a year now and he does need one and there will be many who would probably take the position. Lleyton Hewitt has been a mentor figure for Nick in his box for a while as Davis Cup captain but I think a full time coach is needed for Nick.

At the end of the day it’s all up to Nick. He has the talent to be one of the greatest on the tour in the next couple of years but it’s up to Nick and as the saying goes the ball is in his court.
