Well sometimes tennis just does that to you. A match that started so well for Andy Murray took an unexpected turn as Fabio Fognini turned up.
Murray strolled to a 5-0 lead and to be honest didn’t have to break a sweat in the opening set as he took it 6-1 against the Italian currently ranked at 40 in the world.
The second set was the complete opposite of what we saw in set one with Fognini running the show and the majority of the errors coming off the racket of the British number one who in the opening two sets hit just 6 winners.
Murray just wasn’t aggressive enough in the match and there were a number of things bothering both players including the wind/sun as well as the crowd with Fognini in set three calling the tournament director onto the court.
Set three quickly went in the favour of Fognini who found himself 3-0 up and well at this point we all started to panic but it wouldn’t be a major tournament without a rollercoaster and Andy Murray certainly put everyone through that!
Murray turned it on when it mattered and once he got that break back the result felt inevitable as the British number rolled off 6 games in a row to complete the comeback with fellow Brit Heather Watson court side watching Andy in action as he progresses to the quarter finals to play Steve Johnson tomorrow.
