Despite a run to the Monte Carlo final the usual questions are still there!

Kei Nishikori still confuses me! When he made the final of the US Open in 2014 this seemed like the start however it hasn’t kicked off. Injuries have played a big part in his career haltering his progress however is there only so much you can put down to injuries? Just look at Juan Martin Del Potro, no-one would have thought he’d return as he has but he’s always been a determined player and of course everyone’s bodies are different!

I watched a lot of Kei during the week in Monte Carlo as he saw off Seppi, Rublev, Cilic and Zverev winning against two top 10 ranked players which is 1 win more than he secured against top 10 players in the whole of last year.

I’ve always found it difficult to emotionally get involved with Kei’s matches. The feeling I got during the week was;

– he looked injured
– fed up, dis-interested, tired

I can’t work Kei out at all.

Because of the inconsistencies, injuries and a big factor for me is his presence on court I don’t see him as a contender and I don’t think he is physically there right now and a run to Monte-Carlo final in only his second appearance there should be full of positives and praise but instead has raised more questions.
