It’s fair to say this is Sharapova’s best run for quite some time. The comeback which has been a little flat has gained some momentum in New York.
The last time she won here was in 2006, now as seeds have fallen and she has progressed she may not be the highest seed left in her half of the draw the pressure is on her to go and continue winning.
Once again the Russian has a night match at Flushing Meadows.
Sharapova has never lost a match under the lights winning her previous 22 matches.
Next up for the former champion is a match against Suarez Navarro on Monday night.
Sharapova has looked much better than she did earlier on in the year. I said in a piece a while back we are seeing a lot more control from the baseline but Suarez Navarro can bring that creativity which can mix things up for the Russian.
Her performance against Muguruza at Roland Garros was awful but against Kasatkina recently she really picked up the pace and this is what is needed going forward now.
Will she get the win against Carla?
