All expectations were on Andy Murray to finish his season at the ATP 500 event in Beijing next week but following his defeat to Fernando Verdasco his has decided to withdraw from the event.
The official reason is to do with an ankle problem which was bothering him in the match against the Spaniard in what was a good week for the Brit with a hard fought win against Chinese wildcard and a straight sets and pretty straight forward win with a strong performance against David Goffin.
The season is now over for Andy and it would be completely unfair to sit here and pick out moments or criticise because he’s coming back from hip surgery.
We’ve seen the long path way back before with other players and of course when Andy had back surgery so if anything we should be celebrating seeing him back.
The plan is now to rest before another intense training block which will see him into Melbourne. I imagine a decision on Sydney or Brisbane will be made nearer the time and I fully expect him to play in Brisbane personally just to gain match rhythm.
