The pressure is about to ramp up for Elina Svitolina!

Little expectations and pressure but now expect that to ramp up.

On the tour you cannot really hide, this tour is relentless and played around 47 of the 52 weeks of the year. Even in the off season you cannot stay away from the limelight.

Eli Svitolina now has that pressure ramped up.

Being critical of a players’ year is not being hater, being a hater is hating when there is nothing to dislike. Svitolina said she was hoping to silence the haters in Singapore and she has done that but unfortunately we live in a time where social media is a platform for morons to be able to say what they want and get away with it.

This title win if anything just fuels a fire now for them as they will be there to bounce on any issues.

I have been critical of Svitolina this year but also full of praise. It’s because I know it should be better but also because of how high I rank her talent, there is a big difference between being critical and a hater.

There is no other way to sugarcoat this but the pressure is about to ramp up on her. Eli has won Rome on the bounce now and does well at the Premier 5’s but at the Mandatory events it hasn’t happened for her and also she hasn’t made a Grand Slam semi-final yet.

Out of her 29 top 10 career wins 20 of them have come since the start of 2017 which is quite remarkable and when you look at who she has beaten in this time;

Kerber x4

Pliskova x3

Muguruza x2

Halep x4

Venus x1

Wozniacki x2

Konta x1

Kvitova x1

Kiki Bertens x1

Sloane Stephens x1

This is mightily impressive.

The issue for me is the gaps and this is why she isn’t considered a contender as at the big events because consistently it doesn’t happen for her.

In 2017 she has 11 top 10 wins but there was a 3 month period between Dubai and Italy without one and Toronto and Singapore.

This year none between end of Dubai and Rome and Rome to Singapore which is 5 months.

The pressure will ramp up, her top 10 record is good, her Premier 5 record is good but now that pressure to go from good to great is what she will find. The majors all eyes will be on her in Melbourne, she’s never had a top 10 win at a Grand Slam.

I will be in Melbourne and I hope to see her there!eli
