On Friday night it was announced via social media that Simona Halep and Darren Cahill have ended their coaching partnership.
The journey to this day has been quite incredible.
Simona has battled hard and there have been big bumps in the road with even a split at times in their coaching arrangement but they continued working and this year has been special.
To be a solid world number one takes something and Simona has had a lot of knock backs in her career including two French Open finals and of course that Australian Open final she lost this year.
She never gave in and credit Cahill for sticking by her and believing and installing that belief.
Before this year’s Roland Garros she played in Rome and I said at the time she looked nervy and I worried about her Roland Garros following two final defeats but she played stunning tennis.
The tennis was so impressive but what hit me more than anything was her mental strength. We have seen Halep unravel but she was locked in and it was scary to watch and even a set and a break down in the final she kept believing.
Darren is taking a coaching hiatus to spend more time with his family and a tennis fans I think it’s right we end on a thank you to them both for an incredible partnership!
