Tsonga 6-4 7-6 De Minaur – Alex halted as Jo turns on the style

Alex De Minaur’s run has come to an end in Brisbane. The Australian who continues to draw crowds all over the world played another week of excellent tennis and can take plenty of positives once again from the week as he prepares for Melbourne.

For tennis on a whole it is so good to see Jo back and playing well.

Last year was tough for Jo as injuries halted his season on the tour finishing 12 matches in a injury plagued season but has returned to the tour in Brisbane this year and has looked fit and ready for the challenge.

This match from earlier on in the day was quite a contest and it’s one of those where you get to the final outcome and it’s a shame that a players’ run has to come to an end.

Jo brought his wealth of experience to the game and to be honest I imagine Alex has gone away from this one with a lot of lessons learnt.

He was broken immediately and continued to dig deep and got the break back and there were some things that he probably learned.

He tried serve and volleying which isn’t a bad idea but is something which will need revisiting. The serves he came in on weren’t good enough so that he could follow-through with the technique and be effective.

Part of Alex’ game which has been so great to watch has been his baseline play and it was really good and it is difficult and unfair to criticise a performance where it was so close but sometimes it is easier because you can see what needs doing and a few times he got caught on the short ball and Jo with that power and presence on court turned on the style to get a big win today!
