‘First win in a while’ – Halep snaps losing streak overcoming a difficult opening hurdle

Before Tuesday you’d have to head back to mid-August for the last time Simona Halep won a tennis match.

Simona opened her season in Sydney but fell to inform home favourite Ash Barty as her search for a win went on following four defeats on the trot at the end of 2018 and missing the WTA Finals with injury.

Next up the draw for the Australian Open…

Halep got drew against Kaia Kanepi in R1 and immediate flashback occurred!

Halep lost in R1 to Kaia in Flushing Meadows in one of her last appearances last year so pressure was high!

Halep dropped the first set and you could see the frustration on the face of the world number one who was a set away from another R1 exit in a major and also becoming the first holding world number one to lose in back to back opening rounds of a Grand Slam.

The grit and fight from Halep was there for all to see! She pushed for everything and gave her all as she fought hard for a big victory in terms of her presence at the tournament.
