Almost four years ago Belinda Bencic made waves in Toronto as the Swiss star saw off Wozniacki, Ivanovic Serena and Halep on route to a big in at the Rogers Cup.
Since then it has been tough for her, injuries have halted the progression of her career but over the last 6 months or so Belinda has definitely been on the right track.
Linking up with Roger Federer to win Hopman Cup for the second year on the trot is of course headline making news but the work she has done on the training court and challenger tour is paying off.
Belinda plays with such a comfortable all-round style and it is something you maybe see less of on the tour but she does play the game well. She isn’t the tallest but serve’s smartly and plays so cleverly at the baseline and the net.
It’s so good to see her playing this level of tennis again and showing she belongs at the highest level in women’s tennis. Live rankings take Bencic up 17 places to 27 and I will be shocked if she can stay fit if she isn’t top 15 come the end of the year. If anyone deserves it it’s her!
Now she will prepare for a final against Petra Kvitova as she looks for her 4th top 10 win of the week following three sensational three set battles!
