Following his win in Toronto and Milan the question was could Tsitsipas back it up this year?
So far this year he has had early exits in Rotterdam and Sofia but already taking part in 6 tournaments this year finding consistency is tough but in Melbourne, Marseille and Dubai the Greek star has shown us he is the real deal.
What he achieved last year was fantastic and now making the Dubai final means he has cracked the top 10 in the world and the target right now has to be qualifying for London in November.
Toronto was where we saw him at his best with his big wins against Thiem, Djokovic, Zverev and Anderson before falling to Nadal but the level of performance was exceptional. I wrote these pieces are that time last year about his explosive game and how he sustained a perfect level against Novak Djokovic.
I think these last couple of weeks in Marseille and now in Dubai backing up what he has done in Melbourne proves to me he is the real deal.
I remember watching him in Milan at the Next Gen finals last year and he blew everyone else away, he is at another level.
I was there in Melbourne and the atmosphere days after his win against Federer was electric, all the talk was about him! He had food named after him in local restaurants and the Greek fans came to Melbourne Park in their numbers daily!
We did see Stefanos get frustrated against Nadal in Melbourne but I have no issue with emotion, there can be times where it oversteps the mark but I like emotion as it shows you care and expect better.
Whatever happens in this final I think we have seen Stefanos is the real deal. I’m interested to see how he gets on at Indian Wells but he’s proved he can do it on big stages in Toronto and Melbourne so I’m expecting him to kick on now!
