A battle which had it all! A fitting match-up on International Women’s Day

The tour mums left it all out on court.

On a day with celebrated women it was quite fitting that these two took centre stage as they battled for a place in the next round at Indian Wells.

This was their first meeting in three years since Indian Wells final in 2016 and it was their 22nd meeting on the tour and the first meeting as mums and my didn’t they deliver?

I’m not going to sit here and pick at performances as both women truly brought their a game  to the Californian Desert.

Both ladies turned up and played with precision, power and at times that delicate touch with some absolutely sublime rallies played out.

It is a shame in situations and matches like these that someone has to lose however in sport both women have shown they are winners.

I think it is fair to say that for both ladies since returning from giving birth it has been mixed fortunes. Serena has settled back as you would expect her to making major finals and getting back to top 10 level which is incredible in it’s self.

Vika has had it tough and I don’t think any of us realised how tough she has had it until we saw her in her press conference in Melbourne which I have spoken a lot about but the reason I have spoken a lot about it as it really did open up to how Vika was feeling.

Serena prevailed during straight sets for the American who is still searching for her first title since returning from birth of daughter Olympia but these women both played their hearts out!
