Amanda Anisimova who is 17 years old has won her first WTA title. The American who defeated Kvitová in New York last year began her season with a fourth round run in Melbourne and has now backed it up with her first of potentially many WTA titles.
As the 6th seed she opened up against former Wimbledon finalist Sabine Lisicki who is looking to getting back to full fitness following a awful time with injury and and in three of her five wins she had to come from a set down including in the final before cruising in the third set.
As well as Lisicki she also had some tricky players to come up against in Lepchenko and Haddad Maia.
I think we have to celebrate the title win and not get carried away with it which is something we don’t do too well at all!
Her ranking is now up to 54 and still may need some wildcards for some of the bigger events which I’m sure will be available for her. This will be the first time we see her on the full WTA clay court season so it is interesting to see what the next few weeks has in store following a good start to her clay season.
