Great Britain 1 – 1 Kazakhstan; ecstasy, heartache & history

Wow, what a day.

We were moments away from Great Britain taking a 2-0 lead into Sunday but it finishes at 1-1 so what happened on Day 1 at the Copper Box Arena?

Jo Konta 4-6 6-3 6-3 Zarina Diyas

Well it was a very messy start from the British number one who got broken immediately. During the first few games of the match we saw every type of error possible from Jo who took a while shake off some nerves and that shaky start did cost her in the first set.

As the match progressed the Brit who was soo influential in Bath began to find her mojo and began to find comfort on the court as she hit winners off both wings on her way to a big comeback win against Diyas to set up a 1-0 lead.

Yulia Putintseva 6-3 2-6 7-6 (8-6) Katie Boulter!

Pure heartache for Katie Boulter. Yulia is always up for a fight and my god didn’t she fight. Katie did a great job to take the second set and from 4-0 up and 5-2 the job should have been done.

The tears say it all for the Brit who knew what a big missed opportunity this was to give GB a 2-0 lead. She played so well but this was her first Fed Cup defeat in eight matches for Great Britain and with three match points as well how costly could this prove?

Credit to all four players on day one really did give everything and this is what Fed Cup is about!

How will things fare on Sunday?
