I’m not that surprised but Simona Halep has withdrawn from Stuttgart.
The Romanian number one and world number two spent 7 hours on court in just over 24 hours in Fed Cup experiencing all emotions as Romanian narrowly missed out on a place in what would have been their first Fed Cup Final.
Halep has said;
“If I’m not 100%, I don’t want to step on the court,”
“I’m also exhausted mentally because I gave my everything in that tie but unfortunately we couldn’t win.
“That’s why I decided to pull out, because I have to think about my health first.
“I’ve been very sad the last two days. I’ve been through these moments many times, so I know how to handle it. I just need to recover mentally and physically and then just start again.”
The next stop for Halep? It is due to be Madrid and I hope to see her there in around two weeks time.
I would be greatly surprised if she does take longer off and with it being a Premier Mandatory event a good excuse is usually needed.
I believe that part of the reason has also withdrawn from Stuttgart is as well that she is happy with her level of tennis which she showed in Fed Cup and the time off before Madrid and Rome will do her good as she looks in a months time to defend her maiden Grand Slam title.
