Stuttgart so far; Injuries šŸš‘ Round one āœ… Time for round two fireworks šŸŽ†

Round one is now over in Stuttgart, some have begun and the top four seeds are yet to begin their quest for the title but has happened over the first couple of days and what exciting match-ups we can look forward to over the next day or so.

Simona Halep and Garbine Muguruza withdrew from the tournament last minute meaning the draw had to be moved around whilst a couple of lucky losers came into play to.

Donna Vekic who was due to line up against Angie Kerber in round one got moved and defeated Gatto-Monticone in round one and now faces Daria Kasatkina who pulled off an impressive 7-6 7-5 win against Elise Mertens in round one for only remarkably her second win of the year following a win/loss coming into Stuttgart of 1/7 for the season.

Angie Kerber got bumped up so she received a BYE for round one and will be up against wildcard and fellow German Andrea Petkovic in round two.

Belinda Bencic was also victorious in round one and now has a tough round two against 6th seed Kiki Bertens to follow.

Petra Kvitova will be sweating a little bit less as her potential round two with Dominika Cibulkova hasn’t really gone to plan as the Slovakian fell to qualifier Greet Minnen in round one.

Laura Siegemund who always surprises us in Stuttgart put on a good display in her 6-2 6-2 win against Tsurenko and the former finalist will be a tough test for Latvia’s number one Anastasia Sevastova who saw off Latvia’s number two Jelena Ostapenko in round one.

Defending champion Karolina Pliskova will be hoping to keep the keys to her car but she is up against Victoria Azarenka who has had a busy 5/6 days but was impressive in her first round win.

Finally…

Naomi Osaka who since the Australian Open has 3 wins and 3 defeats to her name. Her last run out was in Miami as she fell from a set up against Hsieh Su-Wei and her match is against Hsieh Su-Wei on the clay which could get tricky…
