Two more years of World Tour Finals at the O2 in London before it heads off to Turin in 2021.
The LTA are disappointed to be losing the event calling it a great asset to tennis in Britain but now need to fight for a new event and there is one which has got people talking of late and is continuing to grow.
The Laver Cup.
I don’t think if The LTA want to really build on tennis in Britain and recently published their vision they can do this successfully with just tournaments on grass in June/July. There needs to be something at different points of the year that will get people involved and interested.
They took the World Tour Finals to a new level, the crowds of over 2.5 million since 2009 and the growth of the tournament which will now move to a new home.
I think Laver Cup pull is important.
It’s been a great success so far and has brought crowds in from Prague, Chicago and this year Geneva will host the event which in. my opinion the LTA should go after!
There is the potential as well for Davis Cup finals bidding as well however the only big stage we have is Wimbledon so I doubt that will happen unless they can get a multi-court temporary event put up somewhere.
The other option would have been bidding for WTA Finals which they should have looked at but last year it sealed it’s move until 2028 in Shenzhen with record prize money of ¢14 million on offer as well.
