Victoria Azarenka will be pretty pleased to have gotten through her round one match in Madrid pretty much unscathed with a 7-5 6-4 victory against Daria Kasatkina who just can’t get going at the moment.
Vika started the match very well breaking the Russian straight away for a 2-0 lead and she looked very much up to the challenge but the first set got quite messy. A following six more break of serves followed in the set despite both players have a game each where they led 40-15 on serve but as the set progressed Vika got the break at 5-5 to take the lead and take the set.
The second set was by far a little more straight forward for the Belarussian who got a key early break in the second and never looked back and it proved crucial as she went onto take the set 6-4 and with that winning her opening round match not in convincing style but the job was done.
It was close margins with Vika winning just one more point in the entire match on route to the win and potentially will be up against Sloane Stephens in the next round who is in action tomorrow.
