Madrid stunned as Tsitsipas ousts Nadal!

All day coming into this one I had the word revenge in my head.

Tsitsipas has always walked away disappointed and in their meeting in Barcelona last year he said he will learn and that defeat in Melbourne after beating Roger will still hurt so could do it in Rafa’s backyard?

It started off with a break of serve for the Greek number one who then quickly surrendered true lead and at the change of course ends would be asked if he could hold serve…

You could cut the tension with a knife with neither player giving anything away in the first six games until Stefanos stepped up.

A good return game at 3-3 with some deep returns allowing him to step in and use the inside out forehand to move up the court.

Could he consolidate this lead?

Nope… 4-4!

Some good serve and volley winners but enough for a lead.

Exchanging breaks once again with a service return winner as Stefanos took a 5-4 lead..

Can he get his first ever set over Rafa?

Rafa came up with a stunning drop shot but the net game of Stefanos once again proved too good.

6-4 first set…

The second set was the resurgence of Rafa!

We had a close couple of opening games but then the Spaniard really began to let go and just seem more relaxed as he paraded around the court to take the second set 6-2 with an hour and a half on the clock.

Following this set I felt that we were just going to see one outcome as Stefanos became frustrated at calls and pointing to his team with the crowd whistling, it was hostile!

Hats off to Tsitsipas he dealt with it incredibly well.

He blew the chance to serve out the match but created four match points on Rafa’s serve and on the fourth he took and what a win it was!!!

Well done Stefanos ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿป
