When these two meet on the tour it is always special.
On Wednesday for the 31st time in their careers and for only the 5th time on clay they will meet once again.
We haven’t seen either player for a while. Serena played her first match in over 50 days but looked very sharp as she fought to a straight sets win over Peterson and for Venus she gave us a vintage performance with a big three set battle to pick up her first win in some time.
I think it’s quite admirable for what these ladies do that they are still battling 21 years on from the first time they played on the tour.
This is like I said the first time for a while and is their first clay court tournament before Roland Garros having not played since Miami.
Venus Williams last until the fourth round where she lost in straight sets against Simona Halep where as Serena who on Monday saw off Peterson in Rome defeated her in Miami before pulling out of her second round match injured.
I have to say Serena is favourite, she hasn’t played for some time but did look sharper than Venus in what is set to be an exciting match up between the two something we haven’t seen on a clay court since 2013.
