Big upset in the bottom half of the draw with the top remaining seed and world number two Karolína Pliskova being knocked out by the 31st seed from Croatia Petra Martic.
To be honest I think we have all overlooked Petra but she has been getting in the results;
Semi finalist in Charleston
Winner in Istanbul
Quarter finals in Madrid
In that period of time has wins over Muguruza, Bencic and Anisimova.
She has been ruthless so far in her path with a 6-1 6-2 win against Jabeur, 6-2 6-1 against the inform Mladenovic and now 6-3 6-3 against Pliskova.
Many including myself tipped Pliskova for the title here but she just didn’t get going and Martic didn’t allow her to.
She got ahead early and never looked back. In the second set she was serving for a 3-1 lead which looked like being curtains for the world number two.
Pliskova managed to rally from 15-30 and break back and found herself 3-2 but that would be that for the Czech number one who didn’t win another game with Martic seeing it through 6-3 6-3
