Simona Halep will have to be wary of her next opponent.
Iga Swiatek who recently turned 18 the other day is a teenager making a lot of noise at Roland Garros.
She made her Grand Slam main draw debut in Melbourne at the beginning of the year getting to the second round. She came through qualifying before defeating Ana Bogdan in three sets but lost to Cmila Giorgi in the second round.
The Pole last year was a winner at Wimbledon (girls singles) and Roland Garros (girls doubles) winning junior Grand Slam events back to back and is now in the fourth round of the French Open against its defending champion.
For someone who has just turned 18 her record on the tour is quite something. She is currently on a win/loss of 21/8 for the season and a career win/loss of 84/18 which is pretty exceptional.
Her game has caught the eye and where best to do it right now than at Roland Garros? The main aspect of her game is the forehand and especially the inside out shot which she has used to devastation so far this week.
Her last match was big. She came from a set down against Monica Puig who has been playing some good tennis of late and the partnership with Kamau Murray is one that is working well for her.
Simona Halep was ruthless in her last match and I do expect more of the same, I said she needs to be wary which I’d expect but I think full fireworks from Halep and once she gets that forehand and the top-spin going its difficult to stop.
