This part of the post is a little bit late out following the conclusion of Del Potro and Thiem but who will be looking for the that semi-final place in the top half of the draw?
Novak Djokovic (1) v Sascha Zverev (5)
Novak has been flawless where as Sascha has rode his luck.
Novak has played some in-form opponents and has been like a bulldozer but he has got here without facing a top 40 ranked player so it will be a tougher challenge.
He was let off the hook lets be honest against Jordan Thompson and Dusan Lajovic but in his fourth round he did impress me against Fognini and that was his best of the tournament.
He will however have to produce something better and I just can’t see it happening. It would be the upset of the year.
Dominic Thiem (4) v Karen Khachanov (10)
Dominic was unconvincing for me until he played Monfils.
Maybe he’s saving himself for this big run now to the final where he made it last year and outside Novak and Rafa he is the favourite and to win it probably will have to beat them.
Karen being here has surprised me to be honest. His season hasn’t got going and since he won in Paris at the indoor Masters event at the back end of last year he just hasn’t found much form. Maybe it’s something about being in Paris?
I do expect this to be a tough battle between the players and I fully expect the Austrian to dig deep into his best and he has to match Karen’s baseline game which has been strong this week.
