Kei survives but how much has he got left in the tank?

I like Kei Nishikori.

I feel like were in a state of deja vu.

How much does Kei Nishikori have left in the tank for Rafael Nadal?

I found myself asking the same question in Melbourne and he then got bulldozed by Novak before retiring injured.

I said yesterday he has a knack of making things difficult for himself and that’s been the theme of his match against Paire, tournament on a whole and honestly at times his season.

Inconsistency has been a problem ball to ball, game to game and match to match. He hasn’t had a top 10 win this year yet but then he hasn’t done himself into a position to play a top 10 player expect Novak in Melbourne but retired.

On the bigger picture since the beginning of 2016 he has 13 top 10 wins and 27 top 10 defeats.

When I look ahead of a match I like to give a fair assessment from both sides and lets be honest I don’t need to introduce Rafael Nadal one bit at all! This man has 90 wins and 2 defeats at Roland Garros he’s flawless.

Kei Nishikori?

It saddens me to think how much does he have left in the tank?

He is a super talent but a lack of consistency and ruthlessness leaves him nine time out of ten coming into this period of the big tournaments physically tired where as getting to this stage should be a little more routine.

Kei has had some difficult and in-form opponents in Djere and Paire the last couple of rounds but from a set up I feel like he has slowed down too much and then a match where he should have been done he ends up fighting for in the 5th set.

Do I think there is a contest? I don’t to be honest I just hope it isn’t a walk-over in more than one meaning of the phrase.
