The bottom half of the draw are set for their quarter finals as the battle for the title intensifies. On the top half of the draw we still await our last quarter finalist with Del Potro and Khachanov having to come back to finish.
Stan Wawrinka (24) v Roger Federer (3)
A Swiss off!
Roger hasn’t had a major test yet in her first tournament here since 2015 and Wawrinka has battled like a warrior to be here.
Stan has seen off Kovalik, the in-form Garin, Dimitrov and of course that five hour meeting with Tsitsipas just to be here.
The question is, how much recovery has Stan had and will it be enough to put together a good enough challenge?
Roger will look to play a fast game similar to what Stefanos did and the defending Stan put in and the attacking tennis he played from deep behind the baseline.
Kei Nishikori (7) v Rafael Nadal (2)
I can only see one winner.
Kei after his marathon against Paire said that Nadal was ‘one of the best clay court players on the tour’ which is the biggest understatement in tennis.
Kei has done well to battle through but it should not have been this difficult at all.
I can only see one winner here. Rafa has 90 wins and 2 defeats at Roland Garros and I just can’t see Kei inflicting an unlikely third against the King of Clay.
