British number one Johanna Konta is into the last four at Roland Garros.
Sorry?
Yes, that’s what I said.
For the third time in her career she is in the semi-finals of a Grand Slam for the third time in her career and is the first female Brit in the semi-finals at Roland Garros for 36 years.
It’s been a clay court season like no other for Jo who turned up to Paris in good form but with that monkey on her back of four consecutive defeats in all her previous performances ending in the first round.
5 wins in a row now she is into her first Roland Garros semi-final.
The performance against Sloane Stephens was better than her performance against Vekic and that is saying something.
She dug in, got going and Sloane just couldn’t react to the variety on serve and the forehand which she guided perfectly around the court.
The stats from Jo in her 6-1 6-4 win against last years runner up was incredible!
33/38 first serve won
8/16 second serve won
25 winners
13 unforced errors
It is time to believe!
She has now either Vondrousova or Martic to face for a place in the final and there is no one left in the draw she hasn’t beaten!
Let’s not get carried away but let’s get excited!
