Well that was exciting.
I don’t really know where to begin. I think maybe a congratulations to Ash Barty for making it to her first Grand Slam final and also to Amanda Anisimova who can leave here with her head held high following a stunning two weeks from the teenager.
So, where to begin.
Ash Barty came out the blocks very quickly taking a 5-0 lead in 12 minutes and had two set points to dish out the bagel.
Roll on another 15 minutes or so and from 0-5 the American was leading 6-5 and serving for the set.
That didn’t go to plan either and it was quite apt that we had a tie-break.
The first mini-break went to the Australian who took a 4-3 lead but that would be that in the first set for Barty with Anisimova winning 4 points in a row to take it 7-4.
The American continued her good run of form going 3-0 up in the second set but the rollercoaster continued.
Ash Barty then reeled off six games in a row to win the second set 6-3.
Thankfully we had a bit of normality, we needed it to slow down a little as it was just crazy. A couple of holds of serve each but it was the Australian who got that break and despite Amanda saving the first five match points Ash had it was on the 6th that the Australian got the job done to advance to her first Grand Slam final.
I think I need a lie down after that.
