It’s a Barty Party down in Paris!

It may be the early hours of Sunday morning in Ipswich, Queensland but I imagine many have stayed up across Australia to see Ash Barty win her first Grand Slam title.

Ash’s form on the tour this year season has been simply fantastic boasting one of the most impressive win/loss records for the year at 31/5.

Clay courts are well known not to be the 23 year olds least favourite surface but to conquer here sends out a big message.

Not long ago she said;

“A week on clay is just a week closer to grass”

Now look at her, she’s a Grand Slam champion!

The Australian started how I would have expected her too. There were literally no nerves from her end of the court as she got the immediate break of serve and lead 5-0. Remember what happened when she went 5-0 up against Anisimova?

The unseeded Czech did get on the board but nothing to worry The Australian who took the first set 6-1.

We began to see more of the same. The variety Barty brought to the court left Vondrousova lost at times. The forehand was pivotal in moving the 19 year old around the baseline but the difference in the backhand and the sliced backhand was tough to read.

The early break went to Ash who was left pretty much on troubled on serve but this time Marketa was able to stay close with a comfortable hold for 2-3.

Marketa began to find her rhythm getting to 30-30 on the Barty serve but the drop shots from the 8th seed were too strong as she sealed a 4-2 lead putting the pressure right back on Vondrousova playing her first match on Chatrier.

The hold of serves continued however Ash didn’t have to worry about serving it out as she maintained her incredible level finished it with a smash on the Vondrousova serve to win her first Grand Slam title!

Well done Ash!
