The grass court season is here. Over the next couple of weeks we will see something world class tennis in the lead up to Wimbledon some here at home in Britain and some abroad.
Rain halted play for most of Europe today but there were some big headlines to come from it.
Garbine Muguruza (leg) and Madison Keys (unknown) have both withdrawn from WTA Birmingham next week where I could be covering for a day due to injuries but we are unknown on the injury for Madison.
Johanna Konta, Ash Barty and Petra Martic who of course made the final four in Paris have all pulled out of their respective tournaments this week but are expected back next week.
One player coming to Birmingham for the first time is… Venus Williams. The 5 time Wimbledon champion is heading down to the second city to begin her Wimbledon warm-up.
There is however no news on Serena who hinted at a wildcard with a trip to Devonshire Park I have heard potentially on the cards.
Stan Wawrinka who has three wins in three years at Wimbledon will be back at Queens Club soon to begin his grass court preparations but has hired former coach of Andy Murray, Tomas Berdych and Grigor Dimitrov in Dani Vallverdu to help him on the grass.
Maria Sharapova is also back in action. The Russian who hasn’t played in February has been spotted in Mallorca practicing. It has been announced she has taken a wildcard for the tournament next week.
