Konta โŒ Venus โœ… Barty โœ… Del Potro’s knee ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป Boys battle in Halle ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿป

Rain brought an early end to play at London and Birmingham yesterday with not one match completed in London. Today saw a better day for both but first round play in London is still not complicated on a big day across the UK and Europe as the grass court season continues.

Jo out!

Bit of a shock but Johanna Konta is out.

The British number one never really got going and if you compare the performance today to the one against Ostapenko it was night and day.

The Latvian was ruthless against Swiatek in round one and looked so composed one again. Remember, she did make the semi-finals at Wimbledon last year.

Venus & Ash win!

I was hoping to see them yesterday but today Venus Williams and Ash Barty both got over the line in Birmingham.

Roland Garros champion and world number two Ash Barty saw off Donna Vekic quite comfortable in straight sets and the Croat never really got going once again in Birmingham.

Venus had Sasnovich to deal with winning 6-3 6-4 and coming from 1-3 down in the first set to win in straight sets.

Pliskova v Pliskova, who lost?

World number three Karolina Pliskova is out. Twin sister Kristyna Pliskova who came through qualifying has defeated the wildcard.

Unconvincing has been a theme for Pliskova of late but she can pull incredible tennis out of the bag like we saw in Rome.

Kristyna said after her three set win she hopes they have dinner tonight. Another Nandos trip?

Del Potroโ€ฆ

Del Potro was so good in his win against Shapovalov however concern!

He has tonight withdrawn with a knee injury following a fall on the grass. It is unknown yet what the full issue is but it is a collective hope it isnโ€™t bad at all!

De Minaur out!

Alex played some of his best tennis since Australia in the first set.

From when I watched him against Thompson last week to watching him today against Bedene he was better.

I felt the intensity drop and it was the qualifier who progressed in three which is a shame for the teenager on his Queens singles debut.

Boys battle in Halle!

No rain but entertaining tennis in Halle!

Three sets were needed in all matches!

Herbert came through from a set down to see off Stakhovsky on the grass. Another comeback win this time for David Goffin who defeated Albot in three.

Third seed Karen Khachanov who had a bad week in Stuttgart was looking much better today as he defeated the in-form Struff 6-3 3-6 6-4.

The final one? Defending champion Borna Coric has had another tough battle and for the 16th time this season needed a deciding third set coming through again with a win/loss of 13/3 this year.
