In January the thought of playing tennis again didn’t look promising.
This week Andy Murray returned to doubles with Feliciano Lopez and they have re-written history at Queens this week on their way to their first title together in their first partnership on the tour.
First of all they had to beat Farah and Cabal the top seeds in straight sets on his return to tennis.
Another straight sets win against Evans and Skupski followed and in the semi’s and final it got tougher.
The duo saw off Peers and Kontinen the third seeds at Queens club in a match tie-break winning 10-7 against the experienced team.
A fellow Brit awaited Andy in the final and that was Joe Salisbury who has had a great climb on the doubles rankings to the top 30 in doubles with his American partner Rajeev Ram.
It was a super close first couple of sets. The first had to be decided by a tie-break and for the Murray/Lopez duo who found themselves 5-1 down but giving up is not something they do winning the set 8-6.
Once again another close set followed but a loose game from the Spanish and British pairing gave the set to Ram and Joe.
A champions tie-break to follow.
Thankfully Murray and Lopez completed ran away with it to give the crowd at Queens and back at home what they had dreamt for, another Andy Murray win!
Incredible week from Murray and Lopez!
