Who will be Andy Murray’s Wimbledon mixed doubles partner? Sharapova ❌ Barty ❌ Kiki ❌ Venus/Serena or Sam Stosur? 🤔

It’s the big ‘coupling up’ of the summer. Even bigger than Love Island.

Who will Andy Murray be teaming up with at Wimbledon in Mixed doubles?

Follow his title win at Queens Club he announced during his week there that he has been looking for a mixed doubles partner but has had a few knock backs.

His team made contact with Ash Barty but she as she said had to make ‘the toughest decision’ to turn him down as she already has singles and doubles with Vika on the table so adding a third event would be a tough ask.

Kiki Mladenovic is also in the same boat and likewise said it was a tough decision to turn down Murray’s invite but likewise she has singles and doubles with Timea Babos on her schedule.

So who will it be?

Kirsten Flipkens, Barbora Strycova, Maria Sharapova, Billie Jean King, comedianne Miranda Hart and Andy’s nan have all thrown their hat into the ring on social media.

The big rule out has been Maria Sharapova. These two have played together at the ITPL many years ago but Murray was critical of the Russian following her drugs ban and has pretty much ruled it out.

The rumours continue to circulate, who will it be?

The draw for mixed doubles is always made a couple of days into the tournament (3rd of July) so a decision will have to be made shortly.

He has been asked the inevitable question about Venus or Serena which he is open to saying;

‘I’d be up for that. They’re both brilliant players but I don’t know whether they’re up for playing or not. They’re both very busy.’

A name I have heard being circulated is Sam Stosur. The Australian who has won 3 mixed doubles, 3 doubles and 1 single Grand Slam title will be in action in singles and doubles (with partner Zhang).

Stosur and Zhang won their first Grand Slam together in Melbourne at the beginning of the year beating some of the best and is a now gathering pace but will mean competing on three events. However with all respect Sam has four wins in her last four Wimbledon singles appearances and has missed two of the last three championships in London.

Sam is also a fan of Andy!
