Just over a week or so ago 15 year old Coco Gauff received a wildcard for Wimbledon qualifying.
During her week of qualifying at Roehampton the American had a science test to sit as well as orchestrating her way to the Championships at SW19 which included a second round win against the top seed Bolsova before defeating Greet Minnen 6-1 6-1 in the final round with a very good performance.
Coco has made it well-known that she only took up tennis because of watching Serena and Venus play. Her first post on Instagram almost three years ago was a picture with Serena Williams.
Coco’s reward in the first round at Wimbledon?
A match against 5 time Wimbledon champion who will be aiming for her 90th win in London, Venus Williams.
This is one of those history in the making matches.
Coco Gauff will be playing her first main draw match at Wimbledon at the age of 15 where as for 39 year old Venus Williams she will be playing in her 162nd career match on the grass at Wimbledon.
Coco is tipped to go far in the game even at such a young age, the experience this will give her is something majority of us can only dream of.
It is mad that she was sitting a science test the other day now she has Venus Williams on Monday.
Coco Gauff does a lot of her training at the Mouratoglou Academy. The man in charge is Patrick Mouratoglou who is of course the coach of Serena Williams and always has an interest in his players matches so I’d expect him to be somewhere there too.
No one knows yet what the order of play will be but how can you not put this on Centre Court? It simply has to be!
