Venus Williams has been coming to Wimbledon since 1997, I was three years old then and recently turned 25.
Over the years the former world number and five times single champion has played 171 matches across three events at SW19 and her 172nd match is set to a history maker, unfortunately not on Centre Court.
Venus who recently turned 39 and has had a lot of on and off court battles and now the five time former champion is on the hunt for her 90th win in the singles in her 22nd appearance.
Who does she have to come up against?
15 year old American Coco Gauff who was given a qualifying wildcard and came through to now appear at her first Grand Slam main draw.
Coco has made it no secret that she only took up tennis because of her admiration for Serena and Venus so what a story this is for both players.
With it being so a monumental moment in both ladies careers with Venus looking for an incredible 90th win at the place she has won five titles and Coco making her main draw Grand Slam debut against her idol a spot on centre court would have made sense but no they’ve been pushed onto Court 1 which seems a little unfair.
The Centre Court schedule for tomorrow is;
Novak Djokovic v Philip Kohlschreiber
Naomi Osaka v Yulia Putintseva
Kyle Edmund v Jaume Munar
I don’t get it.
Novak is defending champion and world number one so I get it. Osaka hasn’t experience on the grass but is a two time holder of two majors. Kyle Edmund is the leading Brit in the men’s draw but has never been past round three.
Unfair to have put such a historic moment in tennis not on the main court.
