Unseeded former world number one Victoria Azarenka will take on number seventh seed Simona Halep
I’ve enjoyed watching both ladies in their respective first two matches. Halep has shown that big mental fight in both her matches and played to such a high level in her third set against Buzarnescu.
Vika goes under the radar but should be given more of a platform to shine because her tennis in her opening round match and especially against Tomljanovic was lights out. It was soo good!
It is a shame that someone has to go home this early, who will and who is under the most pressure?
This will be the fifth meeting between the two and first since they met in the fourth round at Wimbledon in 2017 when Halep won 7-6 6-2.
The Romanian has won their last two with Vika’s only wins both coming in 2012 dropping 6 games in four sets of tennis but a lot has happened since then.
Definitely Halep. Yet to win a title this year (as has Vika) there have been a lot of questions, I think she has played well but I don’t think she will win Wimbledon.
The slow court is in her favour but at the same time she needs to be a bit more proactive at times with her game and switch it up. She isn’t the best volleyer but she is leaving herself open.
I go back to her win at Roland Garros and that was flawless hitting and now we’ve had the taster I want the rest now!
Vika should be considered more of a threat, I think it’s a shame she isn’t and people have looked at her record and ranking and gone ‘bad season’. There is more to it, it’s been good!
Vika has been unlucky with injuries when she gets some good form. Injured in the Monterrey final which then hampered her clay court season early on.
Both ladies I love watching. I can’t call this at all, I want both to win for different reasons but I have to edge with Vika in this one.
