The top three have been un-troubled as they progress to the quarter finals but who has impressed the most?
Novak Djokovic
World number one, has looked a little rattled at times in all honesty. Hurkacz did an exceptional job of that for two sets and I don’t think this whole ATP player council stuff and Gimelstob stuff won’t go away and Novak being the leader is at the top of it all.
His tennis has been good, not out of this world Novak level just yet.
However he has seen off Kohlschreiber, Hurkacz, Kudla and Humbert with just one set dropped which is a difficult opening schedule but has looked sharp but a little frustrated.
Roger Federer
Were still waiting for a test, do I see it coming before semi-finals? With respect, no!
Pouille did an ok job but never asked questions and Matteo Berrettini in all honesty asked less questions of the seven time champion.
I do think he has looked sharp, do I think he will win it? No I don’t. The court is a bit slower this year even if Rafa says its the same but even though Roger likes to play quick points when it comes to Novak or Rafa which looks likely to lift the title I expect their endurance to see them through from the back of the court as they can ask more questions.
Rafael Nadal
Hands down, out of the top three he has been the best.
His level has surprised me. He has had a rough draw and orchestrated himself through it with faultless performances.
Sugita, Kyrgios, Tsonga & Sousa. He has been on fire.
Everything about his grass court game right now is as good as you could hope. His movement and shot making is seriously scary.
For me, Rafa is the favourite right now to take the title. Next up for him is Sam Querrey. Sam has done well to get here after his injury problems but I can’t see this upset happening.
