WTA Finals Shenzhen; who is on course for a place at the season ending championships?

New home and one of the biggest prize pots in tennis but as of yet we are yet to have our first qualifier but who is on course for a place in Shenzhen?

World number one Ash Barty is on course for a place at the WTA Finals leading the race at the moment with Simona Halep in second following her Wimbledon win and despite not big run at a major Karolina Pliskova also is set for a place there.

So, the rest?

Petra Kvitova currently occupies fourth place with 500 points more than Bertens in 5th and both should be quite safe but 6th, 7th and 8th is still up for grabs.

The current standings as of 18th July are;

5th – Bertens – 3276
6th – Osaka – 3156
7th – Bencic – 2758
8th – Konta – 2448
9th – Vondrousova – 2390
10th – Svitolina – 2289
11th – Kerber – 2115
12th – Serena – 2050

I expect Kiki and Naomi to be there but then it does get interesting. Johanna Konta has come soo close twice and won missed out by 25 points so will be desperate to make sure she qualifies.

However to have the chasing pack of Svitolina, Kerber and Serena on your toes is not what you need and adds great pressure. Further down we also have Sloane Stephens down at 16th with 1453 points and I wouldn’t rule anything out with Sloane either. Svitolina is of course as well the defending champion so will be wanting to make sure she is there!

It will be fascinating to see how it pans out. This run from now until the end of the US Open is so key! Who do I think will qualify?

Barty
Halep
Kvitova
Bertens
Pliskova
Osaka
Svitolina
Konta
