Something you cannot fault with Caroline Wozniacki is the fight. The Dane always leaves it all out there but today her all wasn’t enough.
I actually felt like it was Wozniacki who was the better player in the opening exchanges. Caro did play a pretty bad opening service game but re-grouped immediately and we attacking soo well from deep.
At 4-4 things did change, the Dane lost 5 games in a row and found herself 4-6 0-3 (double break) down. At the end of the first set she did receive a medical time-out for her right foot which was heavily bandaged coming into the match.
Against the odds from 0-3 we were back at 3-3 with the former finalist not going away.
Breaks of serve quickly became a thing…
Wozniacki serving at 3-3 was broken to love.
Andreescu serving at 4-3 was broken.
Wozniacki serving at 4-4 was broken.
Bianca Andreescu at 5-4 would serve for a place in the fourth round.
Serving it out? Not a problem for the Canadian who came through holding to love for a 6-4 6-4 win in her first match out on Arthur Ashe.
The crazy year for Bianca continues! Injury problems, Indian Wells & Toronto titles and a super impressive top 20 record of 10 wins and 3 defeats.
Next up on Monday… Taylor Townsend.
