No matter where she goes the support for Simona Halep is incredible. Her fans flock to wherever she is playing to see her and make a hell of noise.
Simona Halep was described as an idol by Bianca Andreescu in the lead up to their first meeting on tour.
It was the 19 year old debutant who came out the blocks quicker in this encounter and really set out her game asking questions of the former world number one.
During the match Simona Halep had her coach Darren Cahill on court four times during lengthly changeovers with Bianca Andreescu receiving multiple medical time outs for issues including her back which is a concern going forward.
As only as Simona Halep knows she fought back and in typical Simona Halep style.
She began to re-direct the ball soo well and put the Canadian on the back foot.
An issue early on in the match and theme she got stuck into was leaving the ball central allowing Bianca to unleash the forehand. She began to be a bit more patient but play with a counter punch which saw her save a match point with a big backhand cross court in the second set.
After saving that match point and winning the tie-break then came the third set. It was Halep who got off the to quick start with a break with Bianca clearly not feeling it and her body language and attitude let her down.
She did fight back after a loose game from the Romanian but at this point it was only going to go one way and that was the way of Simona Halep.
Halep hasn’t played much tennis since winning Wimbledon, just eleven matches including two retirements coming into the WTA Finals but has made a big noise to begin her week!
