Day 2 at the WTA Finals in Shenzhen certainly delivered.
Simona Halep and firstly Elina Svitolina opened up their tournaments with impressive victories.
Elina Svitolina saw off Karolina Pliskova in two sets of tennis with a mentally strong and well thought out game plan against the Czech number one. Pliskova has been left with a lot to ponder going forward after a disappointing performance.

Later on in the day was Andreescu and Halep were up against each other for the first time.
It was the Canadian who Gott off to a good start and eventually won the first set against the Romanian. The job looked almost done as she orchestrated her way to a match point but the former world number one wasn’t done yet!
A complete turnaround followed and Halep pulled off an impressively strong victory despite limited tennis over the last 3 months playing just eleven matches since her Wimbledon triumph.

Tuesday in Shenzhen see’s Red Group get back underway.
Ash Barty and Naomi Osaka who won on Day 1 will be up against each other followed by Petra Kvitova against Belinda Bencic which could be seen as a must win. oth did win a set in their defeats on day one which could help them going forward.
Wednesday will see Elina Svitolina v Simona Halep and Karolina Pliskova v Bianca Andreescu.
