Bianca Andreescu’s debut at the WTA Finals in Shenzhen has come to an early end.
Following her retirement down 3-6 against Karolina Pliskova on Thursday the Canadian had a scan today on her knee and a decision has been made to withdraw from the tournament with Bianca saying;
“I had a scan Thursday to check my knee after last night’s match, and unfortunately the results show that I need to withdraw.”
There are no more details on the severity of the issue.
Bianca’s opponent on Friday was due to be Elina Svitolina who has already qualified for the semi-finals. Second alternate Sofia Kenin will instead come in for the Canadian to play the match on Friday.
This match will have no baring on who qualifies as Elina is already through and it will be a straight shootout between Simona Halep and Karolina Pliskova.
Bianca has had a lot of injury problems including her knee, shoulder, wrist and back this year and here’s hoping it isn’t too serious for the US Open champion.
