Grigor Dimitrov 6-3 6-2 Dominic Thiem; Bulgarian brought out his well-thought-out front foot tennis to Paris!

Over the last couple of months, Grigor Dimitrov has played some very good tennis on the tour. That victory against Roger Federer at the US Open was of course a highlight of this period but his execution of his game plan against Dominic Thiem was exceptional.

Bold, brave and full of trust is a perfect way to describe the game the Bulgarian brought to the court on Thursday afternoon.

Grigor Dimitrov came into Paris with a couple of early exits but impressive performances against Ugo Humbert and David Goffin put him in a good position for the test of Dominic Thiem.

From the off you could sense his intent and it was such a good watch from the former World Tour Finals champion.

No matter where we began with a few shots Grigor Dimitrov would target that backhand corner of the Austrian.

Whether it was sliced backhand, service return or top spin backhand and flat forehand it was pin-point accurate all of the time from Grigor Dimitrov in his 6-3 6-2 victory over Dominic Thiem.

Dominic Thiem had no answer for the Bulgarian who dominated every aspect of the match. When he went into that backhand corner of Thiem in the first with his backhand he won 90% of the points setting the theme for a perfect performance.

It was ‘front foot’ tennis from the former world number three. Everything was very good today from him as it has been all week. He stepped into the court and went to the net with confidence and it resulted in one of his best results this year.

The stats don’t lie;

18 winners (10 FH 6 BH 2 Aces)
10 unforced errors
10 points dropped on serve
11/15 at the net
55/88 points won under 9 shots
88% first serve won
63% second serve won

Next up for Grigor will be Cristian Garin who is through to the quarter finals of a Masters 1000 event for the first time in his career.
