After the first couple of days it did look like we were heading this way and after topping their groups and dominating their semi-finals we will have a first meeting between Alex de Minaur and Jannik Sinner.
Sinner who entered as a wildcard for the NextGen finals in his home country has entertained the locals in Milan winning three of his four matches on route to the final.
De Minaur has delivered. Last years runner up and top seed really found his gear after a faltering start. The 20 year olds big breakthrough year has been exceptional. About to embark on his 59th match of the year and still has Davis Cup to come.
The Demon will take some stopping having won 15 of his last 19 matches on the tour and will finish his year debuting in the top 20.
Sinner has the game and the confidence behind it to really put in a test for the Australian who despite some blips has look unfazed this week.
I did think that a bit of tiredness for the Australian might be a factor but he has been so locked in during the event.
I do think this will competitive, we do have the highest ranked (De Minaur at 18) against the lowest ranked (Sinner at 95) out of the eight players who began last week but I can’t see past a win for the Australian but it will be tough.
