There is just something about this man from Athens who just never gives in.
For just 21 years of age the mental strength of Stefanos Tsitsipas is quite remarkable. Throughout the season I have seen him orchestrate his way past difficult opponents in tough settings.
Whether it has been this week in London, Melbourne or Madrid it has been flawless and I take my hat off to him. To be performing like this at 21 years old and keeping all the emotions of the match in check is quite remarkable.
He set out his stall very quickly and just seemed in control against Roger. The quickness he played with took all the time away from Roger playing his 16th semi-finals at the tour finals.
Once Stefanos gets his teeth in he does take some stopping. Stefanos is one of those players I can’t take my eyes off, he will produce something quite stunning.
The way that he goes about his business makes you think he isn’t going to miss. There were plenty of shots in the match against Federer which stood out and the one for me was the backhand down the line.
It is something I will look at over the next couple of weeks but the way he injected pace and had it painting the lines left me speechless an in awe of his talent.
I said at the beginning he has insane mental strength and I saw it live earlier on this year and he goes big or home. Federer managed to see 12 break points in the match and converted 1.
Tsitsipas just doesn’t flap or get flustered at all and when he was broken back went and immediately returned the favour.
Sunday sees him take part in his biggest final to date and I really hope it works out for him, I would love him to win here.
