The Davis Cup has received a lot of criticism (some fair, some not so) over the course of the week but the feeling of cheering on your country and for the players representing their respective countries never goes away.
Spain were worthy winners led by Rafael Nadal, with also added experience of Feliciano Lopez, Marcel Granollers & Pablo Carreno Busta.
There is one player I missed out and that is Roberto Bautista Agut. What this guy has done this week is quite incredible.
Throughout the course of the year he has produced magical moments on the court. He also is due to get married soon following having to miss his ‘stag do’ due to Wimbledon commitments but has been hit with tragedy this year.
He lost his mother last year and this week lost his father but still turned up today to see off Felix Auger-Aliassime 7-6 6-3 in the first match of the final.
This is what this sport and Davis Cup in particular is about, creating memories. Whether you like the new format or location the players bought into it and have created memories that will be remembered for many years to come.
Congratulations to Spain and hats off to Roberto Bautista Agut!
I have nothing but admiration for the guy and no matter who you support you cannot fault his character.
